Aesthetic History in Turkey

aesthetic in turkey

Aesthetic practices in Turkey developed after the Second World War, as it did in the rest of the world, and then progress was made with the establishment of the Plastic Surgery Association. Of course, between these two wars, plastic surgery has made a splash. In this article, while talking about Turkey’s most valuable surgeons and the firsts these surgeons made in the field of medicine, we aimed to take you on a small history tour. Have a good read in advance, don’t forget to share our article.

The First Aesthetic Surgery in Turkey

The first plastic surgery in Turkey was performed in 1931 by Halit Ziya Konuralp (b. 1904, Istanbul – d. 19 April 2005), the teacher of the teachers. Although there are not many sources related to the details of the operation, we cannot provide reliable information, but most sources confirm the year 1931 and it is shown as the first plastic surgery in Turkey. Halit Ziya Konuralp performed a lot of plastic surgery in Turkey for almost 20 years until he founded the plastic surgery department at Istanbul University. He continued to perform almost uninterrupted surgeries until he passed away in 2005, and presented great works to the Turkish plastic surgery community.

Plastic Surgery Breakthrough in the Military Field

Of course, since both the effect of war and the requirements in the field of military medicine increased during these periods, Gülhane Military Medical Academy, namely GATA, came to the fore. In 1941, Necdet Colonel was appointed to GATA as the Chief of Maxillofacial Surgery. Of course, before 1941, Necdet Colonel was sent to Germany by the state in the 1930s to conduct studies on jaw surgery and receive training. When he returned, he started to work as a Maxillofacial Surgery Specialist. As it can be understood from here, investments in aesthetic and plastic surgery at the military level started before Atatürk’s death, and surgeons were sent to different countries to train in this field. Cihat Borckbakan, who also worked with Necdet Colonel during this period, comes to the fore.

There were also self-employed surgeons in this period when such breakthroughs were seen at the military and state level. Cafer Tayyar Kankat is the pioneer of these surgeons. In the 40s, he carried out many plastic surgery jobs in his clinic in Istanbul. He also shared information about nose and breast surgeries in his own journal. Other important names who served in the field of plastic surgery in their own clinics at the same time are known as Atilla Oymak and Erdoğan Konuk. These names also made great efforts in the establishment of the Turkish Plastic Surgery Association. [one]

Turkish Plastic Surgery Association Establishment

After the association, which was established with the initiative of valuable surgeons, important works were undertaken in the name of plastic surgery in Turkey, and the development in this field continued continuously. Thanks to the plastic surgery association, which was established in 1960 by ENT specialists and surgeons, both the exchange of ideas and the acquisition and discussion of new techniques from foreign sources were connected to a systematic. Having held its first congress in 1968, the association has continuously worked to train plastic surgeons who will bring awards to Turkey and to develop the techniques used, and brought important innovations to our country. With the establishment of the association and the presentations and film screenings in congresses, Turkey received its first institutional plastic surgery award in 1970. The award given to Esat Toksu also shows the importance of clinical research.

About Plastic Surgery and Its Popularity

Cosmetic plastic surgery is becoming more and more popular for modern people. Some people believe that enhancing a person’s beauty is a science. The main purpose of these surgeries and interventions is to improve the appearance of the person by changing the body parts. If we feel that our body does not reflect who we are as human beings, we have the right to change it. If we can dye our hair, change our clothes and get piercings, why not express ourselves through plastic surgery? Now, this right applies to cosmetic and plastic surgery, but if someone can afford to spend money on their appearance, there is no reason why they shouldn’t. The internet and social media have become ubiquitous in the world of plastic surgery. 48% of surgeons use Instagram, Snapchat, He reports that they are looking for plastic surgery to improve their appearance on Facebook and similar social media accounts. As a unique visual social media channel, Instagram is naturally suited to plastic surgery, especially those with visual surgery expertise.

Social Media and Aesthetic Anxiety

Instagram has become the dominant channel for commercial marketing to young adults and its use in plastic surgery continues to increase. Many surgeons were quick to adopt Instagram as a tool for patient education and business development, and it has since gained huge following. Despite the growing influence of this platform, very few academic publications even mention Instagram, let alone evaluate its use in modern plastic surgery. Some authors quote from Instagram. Others highlight the usefulness of Instagram for brand development and education, briefly pointing out the advantages, disadvantages, and recommended uses of Instagram for plastic surgeons.

Aesthetic Statistics and Opinions

Three of the top five surgical procedures focus on the body, and there has been an increase in all three in 2020. In fact, more than 20,000 liposuction procedures were performed in 2020 compared to 2019, while breast augmentation procedures increased by 6 percent. There have also been fluctuations in other body contouring procedures such as hip augmentation and thigh lift. Liposuction remains the gold standard in body contouring due to its versatility, efficiency and effectiveness. One treatment may be all you need to reshape problem areas with liposuction. Our plastic surgeons can treat more areas and larger areas in a single procedure. Liposuction also provides a more consistent and predictable result than non-invasive treatments. however, new non-surgical fat reduction machines at our branches continue to evolve and play a role in reshaping areas of the body. Our plastic surgeons at Turkey Care You can help an aesthetic minded person explore all available options and choose what is best for the patient, which often includes a combination of surgical and non-surgical procedures.
