What is Gingival Biotype and Why is it Important in Aesthetics?
Gingival biotype refers to the thickness and structural characteristics of the gingival tissue: it is classified as “thick” and “thin” types. The risk of gingival recession after surgical interventions is higher in the thin biotype; the thick biotype is more resistant to tissue loss. Knowing which biotype is being used in aesthetic treatments increases the success of the treatment in the stages of gingival shaping, laminate placement and implant-supported prosthesis planning.
